"The Complete History of Candyman" is the ultimate tribute to one of horror's most iconic and enduring franchises. The supernatural film series starring Tony Todd ("Final Destination") originating from the 1985 short story "The Forbidden" by Clive Barker, about the legend of [the] "Candyman", the ghost of an artist and son of a slave who was murdered in the late 19th century. The film adaptation "Candyman", directed by Bernard Rose was released in 1992 and although the film initially under performed at the box office, it became a cult classic. A novelization and a comic adaptation of the film were released in the same year. In 1995 and 1999, sequels subtitled "Candyman: Farewell to the Flesh" and "Candyman: Day of the Dead" were released direct-to-DVD before the franchise fell into dormancy. In 2018 it was announced by producer Jordan Peele ("US") that he was in talks to produce a sequel through his Monkeypaw Productions set for release in August 2021.
