2017. Octogenarian friends Louella, Trish, Maura, and Betty (who likes to remind the other three that she isn't yet an octogenarian being only seventy-five) consider themselves the biggest New England Patriots fans, that fandom largely because of being inspired by Tom Brady. Not being able to afford the tickets, they, in a local contest, miraculously win four tickets to this year's Super Bowl in Houston where the Pats are facing off against the Atlanta Falcons. Their path to the actual game isn't as smooth as they would like if they are able to make it to the game at all as the four deal with their respective demons. Trish, who has reinvented herself as an erotic fiction novelist, is leading the wildest life of the four with a collection of blonde wigs in living the old adage about blondes having more fun, but she is trying to swear off men as she has cycled through them like a revolving door, easily falling in love then just as easily something going awry. Maura is still reeling from being recently widowed, she having moved into a seniors home in feeling that her life as she knew it has ended. Responsible Betty, a statistics professor, is in the most unsatisfying situation, she loving her fellow professor husband Mark, but he not willing to see her own needs largely in relying on her to further his own professional standing and career. And Lou is the spiritual center of the group as it was her chemotherapy treatments for cancer in 2001, Brady's rookie year, that led to their love of him and the Pats. Thus this Super Bowl experience means the most to her in she going through yet another potential health issue about which she has told no one.
