American Charlotte Collins is at a crossroads this Christmas season. Working for the London-based tabloid Royal Gossip Entertainment (RGE) where the more salacious the story the better, she has to renew her work visa, but she isn't sure royal reporting, gossip or otherwise, is what she wants to do as a career. She knows that working at such a tabloid would never get her a job at a reputable royal reporting publication, such as Monarch Insider, which is closer to her own mentality in she being a history buff. And she recently broke up with her live-in boyfriend meaning now having to pay twice the rent. What may decide her immediate future in feeling monetarily underappreciated is convincing her cutthroat boss Tony to give her a long overdue raise if she is able to secure an exclusive interview with Lars, the Count of Sorhagen, he the nephew of the King and Queen of the northern European country of Nordin. The reason for the value in such an interview is that the Count has not been seen in public in years despite his royal duties, that mystique which fosters what little interest there is in the Town of Sorhagen and country of Nordin. Able to get into the private area of the Sorhagen Palace, Charlotte gets a candid photo of the Count. What she doesn't know is that who she assumed was the Count based on circumstance was really Adam Pedersen, a native son of Sorhagen who has recently albeit temporarily returned to spend the Christmas holidays with his mother after traveling the world on adventures for the past ten years, he currently employed as the royal palace winter groundskeeper. The photo causes a problem for the royal family in the fact that a current Count of Sorhagen does not actually exist, Lars or anyone else, news of such which would be the ruin for the town and country. As such, Sir Gustus, the chief advisor to "the Count", is tasked with convincing and coaching Adam to masquerade as the Count for Charlotte's benefit for an exclusive interview, that exclusive under the caveat that there be no photos and on the belief solely on her word that she works for Monarch Insider. That contract leads to Adam and Charlotte both needing to hide their secret from each other and the world, while Adam, for the first time, becomes invested in the well-being of Sorhagen, which he hopes to achieve through being the Count, real or not. Making life difficult for them is Tony, who is always out for the juicy story.
