Courtney Evans works as an associate at Chicago-based Belle La Vie, a high end concierge service that arranges for any of the often quite unusual whims and wants of their very wealthy clients. She originally took the job on the hope of seeing the world, and while she does travel for work, she is more often at the office behind her computer or on the phone, and even when on the road very rarely gets to experience what she wants as a traveler in needing to ensure her clients' wants are met. At the last minute, she needs to take over a file from a recently departed colleague, that of a new client, thirty-three year old Joe Franklin, who she will accompany on a week long snowboarding trip to Banff leaving the day after next and most the arrangements for which she will be making on the fly while in Banff. With little information in his file beyond he being with a rising software company and money being no object, Courtney is forced to make assumptions of what he wants from her experience with similar clients. What Courtney finds is that he is unlike any client she's ever had, he like a kid experiencing a candy store for the first time, and while enjoying things like the private jet and the heli-skiing, his wants are very basic, more a beer (in his case root beer) and burgers type rather than squab and champagne. In being alone, Joe more often than not asks her to accompany him on any of his outings. In the process, a deep friendship develops between the two, for Courtney because of how down to earth he is. While Joe is starting to fall in love with her, something taboo on her side in a company policy of no dating clients, he knows that his future with her is threatened not by that company policy, but in that he has not been totally truthful to her about himself and the nature of this vacation.
