Maggie McKenzie is a struggling singer/songwriter with an old-fashioned way of doing things that might be contributing to her struggles. When the band whose pre-Christmas shows she was supposed to open for drops her, opting for a bigger-name opening act to boost lagging ticket sales, her manager Lewis encourages her to go home, which is her parents' Christmas-tree farm in rural Vermont, to regroup to write the next big song by embracing the latest technology. Her time off working at the farm takes a turn for the worse when one of the customers is Archer Donovan, the developer of one of those music-assist apps that Lewis wants her to use. Archer is facing his own struggles in life. He and his sister Piper have a toxic relationship stemmed in all the winner-take-all competitions their father always forced onto them. Even with their father's recent passing, he is still dictating those competitions, and while Archer recognized that toxicity to go into therapy and to break ties with their father before his death, Piper may not be able to break out of that lifetime of hurt that their father has built into their relationships. Archer came to Vermont for the holidays in a remembrance of the one happy Christmas he had there when he was eight years old. Can Maggie and Archer bridge their divide to help each other achieve some happiness this Christmas season in dealing with their respective problems?
