It's two years into Bonnie Altmeyer's incarceration for killing her husband, leaving her eldest and only son, barely adult Harley Altmeyer, to assume guardianship of his three sisters in their small town in rural Pennsylvania. This position changes the course of his life as instead of college, he works two dead end jobs to make ends meet while having no social life. All four of the Altmeyer offspring are in court ordered therapy, in which most probably talk about the physical abuse they endured at the hands of their father, the reason most assume why Bonnie killed him. Beyond the aforementioned struggles, Harley has to deal with the differing stages of his sisters' lives (in age order): mid-teen Amber who states her hatred for Harley while she uses sex as a surrogate for love; tween Misty who is coming into an age of understanding adult life; and precocious six year old Jody. As Harley tries to figure out a path out of his miserable life, all he can see is his fixation on married neighbor Callie Mercer. But some secrets and some unearthing of repressed memories will alter the course of Harley's life.
