Abbey Lawrence, 36, is rising in her professional life as an acquisitions analyst with Boston-based Everson Valley Farms, which started out solely as a farming business owned/operated by the Eversons and morphed into a conglomerate in all aspects of the food business. Abbey's job is even more important in the lead-up to the company going public. But her love life is in shambles: yet another boyfriend has broken up with her because she is emotionally closed. In light of the latest break-up, after much effort her Aunt Frances finally convinces her to write down all of her emotions about herself and what she wants from life, place the note in a sealed bottle, and throw it into Boston Harbor. Back at work, company president Earl Everson has been mandated to cut back on work hours for his own health and his daughter, company executive Sophie Everson, is busy planning her upcoming wedding, so Abbey is assigned to handle all aspects of acquisitions leading up to the public offering. Earl and Sophie are able to convince his son/her brother Nick Everson to return temporarily to the company to be Abbey's partner, if only to give that Everson clout in whatever meetings are held. Nick, who knows the company inside and out, left it years ago because he rather preferred the farming side to the business aspect, and has since traveled the world, moving from one job in the great outdoors; leaving the business placed a strain between himself and his father. Earl and Sophie hope that this temporary assignment will lead to Nick's permanent return to the company and Boston. Abbey and Nick butt heads professionally in their different work priorities: Abbey is all about what is on the prospectus; Nick is all about the experience and spontaneity. What neither knows is that they have started an online correspondence in he finding her bottled letter, and their online selves are starting to fall for each other. Will they be able to mesh in all aspects of their lives and have a real relationship?
