London based Wundatours has organized a four day excursion to the up and coming Mediterranean island resort of Elsbels, the excursion led by Stuart Farquhar and his assistant Moira Plunkett. Among those on the excursion are: pub owner Vic Flange, who had arranged to go with twice widowed Sadie Tompkins as a romantic getaway, that is until Vic's wife Cora Flange, who hates traveling, found out about it, she thus a last minute addition; married Stanley and Evelyn Blunt, the former who is starved for affection from his cold wife; sheltered older Eustace Tuttle who is still coddled by his mother; a gaggle of younger singles, some traveling in friend pairs, all who are looking to make a romantic connection of one sort or another; and a group of monks. They arrive at their lodgings, the newly built Palace Hotel, to discover that it is not yet completed and the construction workers having just walked off the job. Pepe, the manager, not only tries to hide that fact, but that they are not staffed to handle the party, the only people on staff being his wife Floella as the inept cook and their lazy son Giorgio handling everything else that Pepe cannot. Regardless, Stuart and Moira have to make the best of a bad situation in order to maintain Wundatours' standing and thus their jobs. As things proverbially and literally start to fall apart around this collective over the four days, those having paid to go on the excursion may ultimately have their own personal goals for this trip foremost on their minds.
