In rain-speckled, mid-1980s London, disillusioned writer Gerald Kingsland places a bizarre classified ad in Time Out magazine. On paper, it looks like a straightforward proposition: Gerald is seeking a female companion to escort him for a year on a deserted tropical island, where they will live like modern-day Robinson Crusoes. That is all. Young, headstrong Inland Revenue clerk Lucy Irvine answers the call, desperate to escape her mundane office job. And despite being total strangers, they set off for the uninhabited Tuin Island in the Torres Strait. However, what initially sounds like an idyllic, clothes-free fantasy under the sun quickly turns sour. After all, romance and survival are two entirely different things. As isolation strips away their civilised facades, two castaways trapped in a gilded cage must confront the uncomfortable truth: Did Lucy and Gerald ever stand a chance at surviving each other?
