Thirty-five year old Norval Greenwood, who works in the music business, has lived a privileged Beverly Hills life with his single mother. He hasn't seen or heard from his father in thirty years when he abandoned them, that is until he receives a letter from him wanting to reconcile. Thus, Norval travels to Oregon to meet his father, who lives in an isolated cabin along the rugged coastline. Norval, a generally passive man, finds that his father is not only a mean, violent drunk, but that he won't come out and say what made him write the letter now. Norval can't help but feel compelled stay to find out the whys of what is happening, he going through a series of emotions and events as his life and the life that he missed out on is slowly presented to him, he needing to react at each stage, often against type, for his own sanity and holistic well-being.
