Jack Russell Terrier Max lives happily with Katie in a Manhattan apartment since she adopted him from the pound. While she's at work, he hangs out with pet neighbors in the building: tabby cat Chloe, pug Mel, dachshund Buddy, even budgerigar Sweet Pea. Until clueless Katie alas adopts Duke, a much larger mongrel from the pound, who bluntly steals Max's place and half her attention. The rivals try to dump each-other during a street-walk but are overpowered by Ozone's band of stray cats, collars undone so Animal Control must catch them. Snowball, a bunny who hates humans to death since he was abandoned by his magician owner and leads on odd gang of runaways, liberates and recruits them, but soon doubts their hate for mankind even before a pets rescue party arrives, raised by Gidget, a white Pomeranian who is (not so) secretly in love with Max. Its' time for escapes, chases and facing the truth.
