Goldy's latest catering job for her burgeoning business is a birthday party with the food centered on the client's brand new professional grade grill. Said client is ex-husband Richard, the grill which he purchased for the birthday celebrant, his serious girlfriend Susie. Considering both Richard and Susie friends, Goldy knows many of the party attendees, one being Tom on Goldy's invitation. So she is dismayed to see that there is much dissent with many of the guests bubbling below the surface of the otherwise happy celebration. The morning after, long after the end of the party, Goldy learns from Tom that the grill exploded with one person killed in the process. Beyond mourning the death of a friend, Goldy may mourn the death of her business as, using flimsy excuses, several clients cancel their catering bookings in believing that Goldy may have been responsible for the grill explosion in she being the only one to use it, including cleaning it after the party. Also present when the ME speaks to Tom, Goldy learns that the victim was strangled, asphyxiation the cause of death, meaning that the explosion was to hide what was actually murder. Against Tom urging her to leave the investigation to him and newly minted detective Mason, Goldy and Marla by her side can't help but investigate on their own to save their business, in knowing many of the people involved, and having a front row seat to much of the dissent going on at the party, one of those stories probably the reason behind the murder. But the closer Goldy gets to the truth, the greater her own life is in jeopardy.
