A New York City cop tries to save his wife and several others taken hostage by terrorists during a Christmas party in a Los Angeles skyscraper.
On Christmas Eve, cynical NYPD detective John McClane arrives in Los Angeles aiming to patch things up with his estranged wife, Holly, at her company's holiday party in the nearly completed Nakatomi Plaza skyscraper. Instead, his ambitious reunion plans are cut short when a heavily armed extremist team, led by ruthless criminal mastermind Hans Gruber, seizes the towering, 35-story building and takes everyone hostage. Entirely cut off from the outside world and vastly outgunned, McClane slips away unseen. Now, to save the hostages and see Holly again, he must wage a solo guerrilla war against an army of professionals. But even for a man who is too hard to die, is there any escape from this deadly vertical battleground?
