Plot
Storyline
A history professor has a chance meeting with an infamous outlaw and eventually assumes leadership of his gang.
History professor Brad Fletcher (Gian Maria Volonte) has to resign from his teaching position for health reasons. He therefore decides that a move would be appropriate and relocates to warmer Texas, where he is promptly kidnapped by bandit Solomon "Beauregard" Bennett (Tomas Milian) and held hostage. As the aggressive and violent Bennett, who is actually a pacifist, leads Fletcher through the desert, the two men gradually develop an appreciation for each other and realize that they have more in common than they initially thought. After Fletcher saves Bennett's life, their bond grows stronger, and soon the former professor feels quite at home with Bennett and the rest of his gang. The more time he spends with them, the closer he feels to the outlaws, and before long, he is riding with them and helping to rob banks. Tensions between Bennett and Fletcher rise as the ex-professor tries to take control of the gang.
