When an accident leads to a deputy's death, Teasle declares a full-scale manhunt. As state police and National Guard forces join the pursuit, Colonel Samuel Trautman arrives, warning the authorities that they are hunting a predator, not a victim. The veteran expertly weaponizes the forest, eventually forcing a desperate final confrontation within the town limits.
