1992 in East Germany. A vague hope of a rosy future hovers over the country, but disappointment is spreading on the ground. This is also the case in a small town in Mecklenburg-Vorpommern near the Polish border. The two detectives Stein (Trystan Putter) and Bach (Felix Kramer) arrive there. Their job is to get to the bottom of the mysterious disappearance of two sisters. The parents (Nora Waldstatten, Marius Marx) suspect that the girls have gone off to the West. The locals are tight-lipped and the local police are hardly interested in solving the cases. Especially as young girls have repeatedly disappeared in recent years, allegedly to work in a Berlin hotel. A short time later, Stein and Bach find two girls' bodies, barely clothed and obviously abused. The detectives finally come across the girls' handbags in an old well. A half-burnt photograph of nudes and the observations of a witness finally lead them to an abandoned farmstead where rooms are rented out to guests from time to time.
