An unnamed American crook ends up in the notorious El Pueblito prison after a car chase and a crash at the Mexican border. The corrupt cops Vasquez and Romero pocket the two million dollars from his car and have him locked up on false charges. In the merciless prison town controlled by the sick but powerful Javi, the "Gringo" survives through cunning, theft, and dry humor. When he meets a boy who lives in prison with his mother and is conspicuously protected by Javi's men, he uncovers a dark secret: The boy is the only suitable organ donor for Javi, whose diseased liver is slowly killing him-and the child's father has already fallen victim to this madness. The Gringo decides to protect the boy, undermine Javi's power base, and, while he's at it, get the embezzled millions back.
