An 18-foot-tall, 2,000 pound grizzly bear terrorizes both hikers and campers at a national park. This frustrates the park's Chief Ranger and he decides to hunt it down and kill it. His efforts, however, are hindered by the Park Supervisor and several amateur hunters whom the former has allowed into the park in a desperate attempt to kill the bear. After the bear kills another camper, two Rangers, one of the hunters and a little boy and his mother, the Chief Ranger brings in his friend, a naturalist, to both find it and tranquilize it, but his friend also gets killed by it. Finally, with the help of another friend, a military helicopter pilot, the Chief Ranger goes in pursuit of the bear in order to finally kill it by any means necessary; namely, with rifles and a rocket launcher. It becomes a fight to the finish when the two men realize that the bear is far stronger than even they could have imagined.
