France, 1963: Anne, a literature student, is about to graduate, paving the way for a promising future. Her plans are thrown into disarray when she finds out that she is pregnant. Abortion is illegal, and the doctor makes it unmistakably clear to her that no one will help her commit a crime. Anne is faced with a dilemma: keep the child and give up her dreams, or take the dangerous way out. Anne cannot confide in her family in this enormously stressful situation, and even the few friends she tells about her desperate situation would prefer not to know anything about it. Because if they were to help her terminate her pregnancy, they could end up in prison themselves. Anne begins a lonely search for a way out, which takes her to the limits of her physical and emotional endurance. An illegal abortion could cost her her life. Nevertheless, Anne remains determined to take her future into her own hands - an act of resistance that leaves no one untouched in its desperation and strength.
