History is Made at Night

Cruel Bruce Vail, the owner and president of the Vail Steamship Corp. of New York, is extremely possessive of his wife, Irene Vail. Long unhappy and no longer able to withstand Bruce's untrue accusations of she having had numerous affairs, Irene files for divorce, and is granted a nisi divorce, she in Paris to wait out the six month provisional time frame until the final decree. To get Irene back by underhanded means, Bruce sends his chauffeur Michael to Irene's hotel room to get her into an embrace against her will so that Bruce himself can walk in on them, that embrace with Michael's admission of them having had an affair sufficient evidence for him to nullify the divorce. What Bruce and Michael don't anticipate is that someone who happens to be in the next room overhears the plot and, masquerading as a thief, comes to Irene's rescue before Bruce can catch Michael groping her. What she doesn't know is that he is really Paul Dumond, a head waiter at one of the most renowned upscale restaurants in Paris. In their subsequent immediate time together, Paul and Irene fall in love with each other, each who can see the other as their future. Having seen Paul but not knowing who he is, Bruce plans to use the incident in the hotel room to his advantage, he only focusing on himself and Irene with everyone and anyone else, especially Paul, acceptable casualties.
