Teenager Daniel Middleton (Timothee Chalamet) spends the summer in the vacation paradise of Cape Cod. "Danny," who is still coming to terms with his father's untimely death, struggles to fit in with the rich kids. When the unassuming newcomer shows nerves of steel by hiding a bag of marijuana from the police for small-town dealer Hunter (Alex Roe), he wins the trust of the heartthrob and bad boy. The slight but clever Daniel gets into the business and convinces Hunter to work for a big fish. Dex (Emory Cohen), the henchman of their powerful major supplier, expects absolute loyalty, however. Hunter also makes a demanding request of his partner, who is growing increasingly confident: He must keep his hands off his sister McKayla (Maika Monroe), who hasn't spoken to him since their mother's death. Although the slight Daniel sees little chance with the most sought-after girl in the area, he doesn't keep his promise. The temptation to secretly get into the harder drug trade against Hunter's wishes also lands him in dangerous trouble.
