The deaf and mute writer Maddie Young moves from the city to an isolated cabin in the woods. Maddie was a normal child, but when she was thirteen years old, she had meningitis and never became normal again. She has a friend, Sarah Green, who lives nearby and is learning deaf-mute sign language with her. Her sister Max insists that she should return to the city but loves living in a calm cabin. In the moment, she has a writer's block is not accomplishing to find an end to her new book. When Sarah leaves her house to meet her boyfriend John, Maddie returns to her book. However, a sadistic masked man kills Sarah with a crossbow and a knife outside Maddie's house, but she does not hear or see anything. The killer enters her house, steals her cellphone and scares her from outside the house. Maddie runs and closes the doors and windows, and the killer tells that when she is tired, he will kill her. He also cuts her power, living the house in the dark. Without speaking, hearing or means of communication, Maddie thinks how she can escape from the killer.
