Kelly MacNamara, Casey Anderson, and Petronella Danforth comprise the rock band The Kelly Affair, managed by Kelly's boyfriend Harris Allsworth. Only getting small-time gigs like at high school dances, they decide to try their luck in Los Angeles, where Kelly hopes to locate her long lost maternal aunt, Susan Lake, to show them the ropes of the city. Working as a successful publicist, Aunt Susan welcomes the foursome with open arms, which does not sit well with Susan's financial adviser, Porter Hall. Susan introduces them to rock promoter Ronnie Barzell affectionately referred to in the business as Z-Man, who takes them under his wings and rockets them to stardom rebranding them as The Carrie Nations, pushing Harris out of the way in the process. With Z-Man leading them, the four get caught up in the excesses that are often associated with Hollywood and rock 'n' roll, namely sex and drugs, all four for different reasons and with different temptations. The questions become if any of the four can emerge out on the other side from those excesses, and if so in what state. One other thing factoring into what happens is money, namely the family money inherited solely by Aunt Susan in Kelly's mother having vanished from the family before her passing.
