Charlie Waldo (Charlie Hunnam) once made a glorious start to his career with the Los Angeles police as the youngest detective of all time. Now he lives as a dropout in a caravan and wants nothing more to do with a life as a law enforcement officer or even just in the middle of society. Even when his former lover Lorena (Morena Baccarin) turns up and wants to hire him as a private detective to prove the innocence of Hollywood star Alastair Pinch (Mel Gibson) in the death of his wife, Charlie waves her off. But then Lorena disappears without a trace, and when Charlie meets his famous client, whose relationship with his young daughter is at best as intimate as his relationship with the bottle, the detective's nose is tickled.
