Freeride snowboard and wingsuit champion Geraldine Fasnacht, bodyboard world champion Amaury Lavernhe and multiple freediving world record holder Guillaume Nery are part of a club of their own among high-level athletes. Extreme athletes, they fascinate and intrigue us. What are the physiological, sensitive and psychological specificities that enable these performances? In each of their competitions, each of their outings, these men and women face the elements, pushing the physical and psychological limits to succeed in their exploits. They have made surpassing themselves their profession, their obsession. Performance, concentration, preparation, rigor of training punctuate their life as a champion. But whether they are in the mountains, in the water or in the air, everyone potentially puts their lives at risk, because zero risk does not exist. For what ? What are the motivations of these athletes? What does this need to explore limits tell us? Unconsciousness or quest for the absolute by becoming one with the nature that surrounds them? The Taste of Risk is a transmedia project, comprising a documentary and an immersive virtual reality experience. The documentary film and the 360° video experience both immerse us in the daily lives of extreme sports champions to explore with them the notion of risk in their practice. The 52-minute documentary tells us about their exploits and compares their perspective with that of researchers who have been studying these practices for nearly 25 years.
