Canton of Neuchatel, 1917: Jean Schaeffer (Mathieu Simonet), a talented young watchmaker, is caught smuggling coal across the border of war-torn France with his accomplices by an elegant horsewoman: young Anna von Rohr (Gaelle Bona) is out riding her white horse. Jean immediately falls madly in love and can think of nothing else. However, Anna's family is very wealthy and belongs to the bourgeoisie - love seems impossible. Five years later, the watchmaker and the noblewoman meet again, and Anna also falls in love with the visionary Jean, who has just invented the wristwatch. To the craftsman's great surprise, Anna's mother gives him permission to marry her daughter. The couple's happiness is complete. Anna actively supports Jean in setting up his new watch company, which he founds with his best friends Gaspard (Baptiste Coustenoble) and Abraham (Jean-Charles Clichet). She also looks after the four children she and Jean have together. But then Anna's past catches up with her: often alone at home with the children, she begins to hear voices around her whispering evil things and threatening her.
