Via American Humane, Ally Craig, who owns and operates her own garden nursery, fostered a Golden Retriever, Sunshine, a retired military dog, until her handler, US Army Master Sergeant Jake Terry, returned from his latest and possibly last tour of duty in he also returning to civilian life, but being on call for possible future service. Sunshine came into Ally's life at just the right time as she needed Sunshine's unconditional love and support when her fiance, landscape designer Ben Morgan, broke up with her by a telephone call in a case of cold feet. Jake, who faced a similar romantic situation in receiving a Dear John letter from his longtime girlfriend Donna in she unable to wait for him in their uncertain relationship, wants to thank Ally for her service in part by keeping her in Sunshine's life in the two of them striking a friendship. With Ben and Donna still in Ally and Jake's life, respectively, and both Ben and Donna wanting to rekindle their respective romantic relationships, Ally and Jake have to decide if they should act upon the burgeoning romantic feelings that are developing between them. Denver and Trisha Collins, who have hired Ben to design and construct the landscaping on their residential property, may give Ally a good perspective if she should give Ben another chance. What would also factor into what happens between Ally and Jake is if Jake is called back into active duty, he who may not want to put anyone again into the position of waiting for him.
