Brooklyn is the on-air business reporter for Channel 5 KSET News Seattle. As she is getting tired of the formality of business news, in which she's tried to insert a bit of levity in her reporting, she is thinking about moving into culture or lifestyle reporting which would allow her more freedom, especially as she's already been warned twice about not inserting that levity by her boss Mary in a "three strikes" policy. Brooklyn may get her chance when the station's lifestyle reporter has a last minute emergency, Mary deciding to assign covering the annual five day Balloon Fiesta in Albuquerque, NM to Brooklyn, who jumps at the chance despite being afraid of heights. At this last minute, Mary arranges for Brooklyn and Brooklyn's regular videographer Elise to stay with Jared Troy, the owner/operator of Love in the Air, which specializes in providing hot air balloon rides of a romantic nature. As Mary pitches that Brooklyn would focus her reporting on his business, Jared agreeing is on the caveat that his personal life is off the table. Thinking Jared is hiding something, Mary directs Brooklyn to focus her story on whatever that secret. In meeting Jared, Brooklyn makes a mutual romantic connection with him, especially as he helps her work over her fears, not only of heights. But in discovering why Jared does not want his personal life discussed, Brooklyn has to decide if she will follow Mary's directive which would threaten her romance with Jared, or not cover it which would mean her job.
