Mark Tate runs heiress mother in law's distribution firm Emerson Foods, with daughter Carrie, who learns only when that maternal grandma dies that her testament leaves it to the first married granddaughter. That probably means her sister Katie, who already plans her wedding with Ethan, who unlike her doesn't dismiss a lead in the business. To secure her position, Carrie plans a sham wedding with suave friend Paul Taylor, whom she failed to notice being gay, hence declines. Meanwhile she develops a love-hate relationship with attorney Dylan Patrick Courtney, Ethan's best man, who also represents the Napa family wine firm Emerson hopes to buy, which ultimately leads to an alternative solution.
