Is a dramatization of the life of Molly Bloom focusing on being known as the Poker Princess in running high end poker games in Los Angeles and then New York, and her indictment for running the "illegal" games in New York. She was once a world class freestyle moguls skier coached by her controlling psychology professor father Larry Bloom, that control in part which led to their estrangement. Following a career ending accident, she, a strategic thinker who strives for greatness, has to figure out her new path in life. Proverbially en route to law school, she becomes involved in running high end by invitation only poker games in Los Angeles organized by her "day job" boss, Dean Keith for who she has no respect. She is able poach all the players to start her own game but not before getting advice that what she is doing in running such games is not illegal. The path from these Los Angeles games, to moving her operation to New York where what is happening is skirting the line of legality, writing a book on her life to make money only naming names that would already be in public records, and then being indicted two years after running her last game is presented. While most of the aforementioned is told in flashback, the movie centers on the relationship between Molly and her expensive lawyer, Charlie Jaffey, and their strategy on how best to clear her of the charges.
