She landed her first professional acting role in a successful, national television drama series at the age of 14. Since then, she has acted in various local and international television and film productions. Barbara-Marié is a member of the Actors Centre in London. In 2000, she won the South African Avanti award for best newcomer and was nominated for best supporting actress in a drama series in the same year.
