Featuring songs from German musician Nico's third studio album, Desertshore, the 1966-1967 vocalist for The Velvet Underground wanders through the desolate landscapes of Death Valley, the frozen vistas of Iceland, and the barren panoramas of Egypt. In the desert, Nico uses mesmerising soliloquies to create an otherworldly reality. As she delves deeper into her prophetic state, a horseman suddenly emerges, reminding her of her mission: to find the ruler of fire, receive the holy sword, and claim her rightful place as the land's monarch. The film captivates the audience with sequences of meticulously composed tracking shots that weave an intricate, surreal logic.
