Plot Storyline
A bitter-sweet comedy about the problems which come with the avoidance of saying uncomfortable truths. An assistant professor gets lost in his lies as he attempts to postpone writing a negative review of an amateur fine arts essay.
Karel Klima, a mild-mannered university assistant and intellectual becomes the target of an increasingly absurd and oppressive campaign after he casually refuses to write an academic evaluation for a tedious, ambitious colleague. What begins as a small act of avoidance spirals into a bureaucratic nightmare: Klima is accused of unethical behavior, socially isolated, and gradually stripped of his professional and personal security.
