Plot Storyline
Secret agent OSS 117 foils Nazis, beds local beauties, and brings peace to the Middle East.
Chicken breeders, sheep breeders, cattle breeders - the meat market in Cairo in the 1950s is confusing. This is mainly due to the fact that the meat trade involves front companies for international spies who are virtually bustling around Cairo. Hubert Bonisseur de La Bath (Jean Dujardin), who works as OSS 117 for the French secret service, has arrived from Paris. The superpowers USA, USSR and Great Britain are fighting for influence in post-war Egypt, ruled by President Nasser, and OSS 117 is tasked with strengthening France's position. OSS 117 is also tasked with finding out what happened to the Russian freighter "Karpov", which disappeared in the Suez Canal. But the mission also has a personal aspect, as OSS 117's old friend Jack Jefferson (Philippe Lefebvre), alias OSS 283, was murdered in Egypt. OSS 117 is assisted by the attractive Larmina (Berenice Bejo), who was Jefferson's secretary but has her own agenda. Under a false name, OSS 117 investigates with great zeal and physical exertion in Egypt. The muezzin also gets a taste of this when he calls for morning prayers and significantly disturbs OSS's sleep. Events come to a head at a reception at the British Embassy. Nigel Gardenborough (Laurent Bateau) wants to warn OSS and collapses dead in his arms. A trail laid by Larmina leads OSS 117 to a cafe where a group of conspirators, the "Eagles of Cheops," are meeting. The Frenchman's cover is blown, and he is sunk in the Suez Canal, but manages to free himself. Even a trip to a Turkish bath and a visit to the pyramids end on a conciliatory note for OSS 117 after life-threatening situations and strange encounters. The showdown finally takes place at Pier 17 in the port of Cairo, where a real surprise awaits OSS 117.
