Reknowned adventures author Colin Page finally leaves New York to actually visit the Fijian island his hero found a legendary pearl on, having found a British explorer's intriguing journal, hoping an article can boost his slumping book sales. Guided by local Polynesian Malakai and his daughter Daniela, he teams up with adventurous, ambitious magazine photographer Alex Anderson, who seeks a big scoop to win a promotion to creative director. Combining their skills and backgrounds, while probing the Polynesians about the pearl legend, they find clues, get romantically involved and ultimately face the pearl's existential secret to win happiness.
