Carmel CA radio disc jockey Dave Garver is trying to change his womanizing ways especially as it was a large reason for the end of his relationship with artist Tobie Williams, who has just reentered his life and who he views as the one who got away. He had just entered into a very casual relationship with Evelyn Draper, who he met in his local bar, she ultimately admitting not by chance as she is what she regards as his biggest fan, a frequent caller to the radio show in always requesting from him, in these exact words, "play 'Misty' for me." As he negotiates his relationship with Tobie, he has less and less interest in Evelyn. However, it is not as easy for Dave as being direct with Evelyn as she had already demonstrated her obsession with him, that obsession only increasing with every encounter he has with her. His view of dropping Evelyn totally out of his life ebbs and flows, first as he sees that she could be a danger to herself, then second as he sees that she holistically could be a danger to him and to those around him, most specifically Tobie.
