Mississippi, mid-1990s: O'Keefe, a traditional family businessman, can hardly believe that despite a verbal promise, he is being financially taken advantage of by a large corporation. Frustrated and under intense pressure, he hires the successful and flamboyant African American lawyer Willie E. Gary. The trial, which is supposed to be about commercial fraud and should really only deal with contract law issues, develops into an exciting discourse on ethnicity and structural racism. The unlikely pair join forces and uncover corruption and racial injustice in this inspiring story.
