The film opens with a view of the Prague's Hradcin castle, revealed to be on a plate in a tourist shop. A group of tourists travel by Cedok bus through the city of Prague, when the bus collides with a taxi. Voskovec and Werich, the stars, play a taxi driver and policeman on the scene of the accident, who then become amateur actors. The two male friends meet and pursue a girl, the actress Marta, who is starring in a musical play. Meanwhile, the actress's brother has been dealing cocaine and is being pressured by gangsters to pay back the money he owes them. He borrows money from his sister. The two friends take Marta to the country for a picnic, and are then hired by the musical play's director to appear as comedians in the play. Their rehearsal is a disaster, but they are nevertheless seen in the musical's premiere. The actresses's brother leaves the city to escape the gangsters, but the gangsters kidnap Marta, who is rescued by the taxi driver, as is the brother, who repents his previous behavior. Marta kisses the play's author, and the two friends realize they have no chance.
