In Cleveland, a young Black man and woman are on their first date after meeting online on a dating app. As he's driving her home at the date's end, they are pulled over by a white police officer on a minor traffic violation. The encounter between the officer and the pair quickly escalates to the point that the young man, able to get the officer's firearm, shoots him dead in a case of self-defense; the officer first deliberately provoked them, then shot the young woman in the leg and had started to beat the young man with no real cause. The two young people weren't even at the point of planning a second date, but this ending of their first one forever binds them together.
