Rain [1932] Joan Crawford

Life is easy in Pago Pago, on an isle in the Pacific as missionary Alfred arrives with his wife, Dr. MacPhail and his wife, and prostitute Sadie Thompson. All of them have a good relationship with the military police, led by Sgt. Tim O'Hara. Sadie settles in the same bungalow with the Davidsons and the MacPhails, and winds people up with her parties and phonograph music. Even Sgt. Tim O'Hara whom she nicknames "Handsome", tries to win her heart. Sadie's carrying some secrets from her past, some crimes that she must pay for in San Francisco, so she's trying to escape to Sydney or maybe somewhere else in the Pacific. Alfred can't stand the situation, and he'll move his influences with the governor to make Sadie leave the isle and returns to San Francisco. Sgt. O'Hara gets very upset with Davidson and he'll try to help Sadie and sends her to Sydney, Australia. But Sadie has become another woman under the influence of Davidson and his prayers, she regrets her old life, and she willingly travels to San Francisco to confront justice.
