Jerusalem's Lot, Maine. After years of absence, successful novelist Ben Mears returns to his peaceful hometown, intent on writing a book on the notorious Marsten House: an age-old, rumour-filled residence perched on an allegedly haunted hilltop. But things have changed. Nowadays, two new tenants live in the gloomy house: uncannily taciturn newcomer Richard Straker and Kurt Barlow, his mysterious, always absent business partner.
