Olivia Spencer, a successful Seattle-based interior designer, works behind the scenes for a network television show. She is getting her first on-screen break hosting and designing for the holiday special "Home for the Holidays", which, if successful, means her own network show in the new year. She believes the show is being derailed when the network hires New York based Chris Davis to produce and direct, her concern being that his claim to fame is being the creative force behind the cheesy dating show "Model Home", model as in the runway variety. Indeed, Olivia and Chris butt heads from the start, his first directive being to change the locale from the home she chose for the make over to what had been her family home when she was growing up, it which has sat empty for years and is now derelict, she only having three weeks for the make over to the live on air Christmas Eve reveal. In the process of going through the house, she discovers something hearkening back to a transformative childhood Christmas when she received a doll house which became her impetus to become a designer: a letter she wrote to Santa that year asking for him to reveal who her soul mate would be, and Santa's response which she had never seen. The response states her soul mate is named Nick. While she initially dismisses the letter, she begins to believe its content really are her destiny when in quick succession she, by pure chance, meets three eligible and seemingly perfect men named Nick A., Nick B., and Nick C. As she gets to know the three men, she further discovers more messages from Santa that she has to choose the correct Nick by the stroke of midnight Christmas morning or forever lose the man who is her soul mate. But with all three seeming to be perfect but not quite perfect for her, a thaw begins to happen between herself and Chris to the verge of romantic fireworks. She has to decide if she will follow her heart to choose Chris, or follow what seems to be her destiny with one of the three Nicks.
