Isabel Haynes works for the company that has been outsourced to compile the naughty or nice list for Santa, those on the naughty list to receive lumps of coal on Christmas as an incentive to become nice for future years. As an inspector, she is tasked with making the final evaluation on those that are on the borderline, she only to observe clandestinely without making contact with the subject or anyone in their family. As one of the most respected inspectors in the company, she is being considered for a promotion to partner. That promotion may be at risk when she inadvertently breaks one of the rules in literally bumping into Jason Duncan, the long widowed father of one of her subjects, Charlie Duncan. Charlie has routinely fallen on the naughty list and this year looks to be no different. But as undercover Isabel constantly seems to run into Jason, spends more time with him and subsequently with Charlie, she may find that a picture may not provide the whole story. It gets even more complicated as especially Charlie tries to figure out why Isabel seems always to be lurking in her and her father's shadows, and as a romantic connection seems to be forming between Isabel and Jason.
