The next letter the team deals with is personal to Oliver in it becoming dead he believes being his fault in he "not doing his job" properly fifteen years ago when he was a mail carrier leading to the explosion of a full mailbox which he should have emptied five minutes prior. This letter, the written contents of which are still legible, is written by high school student Ryan to Maddie, a debate competitor for who he professes his love. The item that makes solving who Maddie is is that Ryan claims that meeting her led to him killing someone. What happens with this mystery is affected by it being the day before and of Valentine's, Oliver who has a special way to ask Shane to be his Valentine this year, that Valentine request which goes astray. And Rita being "promoted" to Miss Special Delivery kiboshes what was supposed to be her and Norman's first Valentine together as she is called to Washington DC on official Miss Special Delivery duties. It's not so much Rita's absence but what she says publicly that threatens their romance before it really even begins.
