Smart girls don't talk (1948)-PARENTE

Gangster Marty Fain owns and operates Club Bermuda, a nightclub and illegal gambling joint. He is not averse to using violence against any of his adversaries. He also knows what may be most advantageous to his business even if it means not collecting all he is owed, but he may proverbially need to break a few fingers along the way. Even if he does not know them personally, he is well aware of the personal situations of his regular gamblers to know how best to handle them if problems arise. One such regular is socialite Linda Vickers, who is a socialite in name and outward appearance only as she has run into financial difficulties. Upon their actual meeting, they fall for each other, Marty impressed with her tough as nails outward demeanor and soft interior, and Linda admiring the way he handled the situation of her trying to bilk a few thousand dollars from him. However, upon his arrival back in the city, Linda's brother, whom she casually refers to as Doc as he is a physician, does not approve of Marty in her life, especially what he's read of him against his suave demeanor. Linda has to decide what to do with regard to Marty, which is only complicated as Doc inadvertently gets caught up in Marty's life.
