Sorgenfri is an idyllic small town with well-tended front gardens and friendly neighbors. Unusual deaths and a missing body initially cause little concern for parents Dino and Pernille. But soon their town is almost unrecognizable. Heavily armed special forces patrol the streets, no one is allowed to leave the house and shots are constantly being fired. While Dino prefers not to ask any questions, his son Gustav wants to know what is going on. When the teenager sneaks out of the house, he makes a terrible discovery during his dangerous investigation. Shortly afterwards, Gustav's crush Sonja asks for shelter for herself and her mother. A couple of neighboring friends also take refuge in the house, where the rationed food is becoming increasingly scarce. When the security forces suddenly disappear, menacing figures take over the street. Now the trapped people know that they will have to defend their lives by force of arms.
