The dysfunctional Parker family moves to the middle of nowhere in the hot Australian Outback. Pharmacist Matthew Parker does not sleep in the same bed as his homemaker wife Catherine, who is a woman needy of sex. Their 15-year-old daughter Lily is promiscuous and their son Tommy is a sleepwalker who walks through the town during the night. One night, Tommy sleepwalks and Lily follows him and soon Catherine discovers that they never got to school and they're missing. A sandstorm hits town while Catherine and Matthew look for their children. Sheriff David Rae investigates the disappearance and a search party is organized. Meanwhile, Catherine finds Lily's diary and discloses past secrets of the Parker family to Rae to help the investigation.
