Tall Man Riding (1955) Western

1892 in the American frontier town of Little River. After being away for five years, ex-rancher Larry Madden has returned specifically to kill land baron Tuck Ordway, who not only ran him off his land, but humiliated him in a public beating. Tuck is known as one of if not the most dangerous man in town in being the quickest draw. The reason for their animosity was that Tuck had discovered that Larry was secretly courting his daughter, Corinna Ordway, Larry's rationale for keeping it secret feeling not yet worthy of an Ordway. Larry has hired lawyer Ames Luddington to conduct undercover reconnaissance prior to Larry's arrival. Larry has a Plan B to use the information that Luddington learns about Ordway's property not being properly registered, meaning it will come into the public domain if the authorities discover the oversight, if he is unable to kill Ordway. Even before arriving in town, Larry assists a man under siege, he perhaps regretting doing so in learning that he is Rex Willard, Corinna's husband. Saloon owner Cibo Pearlo also has a beef with Ordway, who is assisted by his sidewinder, the Peso Kid, but has different motivations than Larry which places them at odds. What happens is affected by two women in town: Corinna, who may or may not trust Larry based largely on their history and his current outward motivations; and Reva, the singer at the saloon and Cibo's girl, who unknown to Cibo, has a life outside of her relationship with him.
