Olivia Marsden left her small hometown of Blue Creek TX twenty years ago to make a name for herself. While she didn't become a photographer as she planned, she did achieve success as the woman behind the woman, namely as the producer for world famous photographer Meryl James in Austin. Rather than a week off as she expected when she is able to convince workaholic Meryl to take a spa vacation, Olivia and her best friend June head to Blue Creek upon Olivia getting a call from her cousin Mason that there are health issues with their aging Aunt Ruby, who along with her recently deceased Uncle Pete raised them. For fifty years, Ruby has owned and operated Sweetwater's, arguably the most famous honky-tonk bar in Texas and where Olivia learned how to dance the two-step. There, June learns for the first time of a "Luke" that was in Olivia's life in Blue Creek. Olivia eventually discloses that she and Luke, a cowboy, were each other's "first" everything, including each other's first heartbreak when she broke up with him in leaving Blue Creek, and he taking up with someone else too soon afterward for Olivia's liking. There is no way for Olivia to avoid Luke while she's home, leading to the display of obvious feelings still existing between them. Olivia can also see that there are issues with Aunt Ruby beyond a sprained ankle from a fall. While Ruby has received offers to buy Sweetwater's from Bryan Boone, another departed Blue Creek son who made it big as a tech giant and who wants to buy it as a connection to home, she is also hiding some financial issues with Sweetwater's, the cause of problems which Olivia does not know in it still doing good business. In the process, Olivia has another potential suitor in Bryan showing his interest in her. Helping Aunt Ruby with all her issues will provide Olivia some clarity about her life: her work with Meryl, and if there is a future for her with either Bryan or Luke, if the latter probably meaning a life back in Blue Creek.
