Generally loved G.P. Bruce Turner plans to retire and close down his practice in East-Coast small town Greenwood by Christmastime. His teen son Kyle helps him as receptionist during the last days. Finally his adult daughter Vanessa has an opportunity to return home from her ER job in Los Angeles, and she insists on helping out as doctor. She was picked by her former high-school sweetheart Mitch, now the local handyman, who is hired to remodel the practice but he has a bad fall. While her romantic advice for Kyle about his classmate Shelly goes a bit wrong, 'Nessa' gradually falls in love with the small pleasures of small-town life, patient friendship, and Mitch's charms, but must decide before Christmas whether to apply for an L.A. promotion.
